A Tribute to the Women of Motown

Thursday, March 9, 2023 11:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m.

Public Playhourse is kicking off Women’s History Month with a dazzling tribute featuring the Music of Diana Ross, The Supremes, The Marvelettes, Tammi Terrell, Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, and more. Spread the word and bring your friends for a matinee concert of Motown music. Tickets are $10. More info here.

Suitland Civic Association, Inc. Annual Women’s History Month Celebration

Saturday, March 11, 2023 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Join the Suitland Civic Association as it celebrates Women’s History Month with guest speaker Joanne C. Benson, District 24 State Senator. More info here.

Living History Series: Harriet Quimby, America’s First Aviatrix

Saturday, March 18, 2023 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Watch Harriet Quimby fly into the College Park Airport! Actress Sara Sincell portrays the first woman to gain her pilots license in America and the first woman to fly across the English Channel. Sincell’s brings to life the story of aviatrix, artist, and activist Harriet Quimby during a 35-minute living history demonstration. Guests will have the opportunity to interact with Quimby during and after the show. 

After the show, the Museum is hosting a 30-minute “Women in Aviation” tour highlighting the roles women have played in aviation history. This program is great for all ages! Admission to the fly-in and show is FREE. More info here.

Women in Jazz Panel Discussion: The Value of Mentorship

Sunday, March 26, 2023 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Montpelier Arts Center is celebrating Women’s History Month with an exciting panel discussion featuring leading women in jazz in the region. This year’ we focus on the ‘s panel will focus on the topic of mentorship. Do female instrumentalists and vocalists get the same kind of career support commonly given to men? Do women routinely think about asking for free professional help from other musicians, teachers, promoters, venue hosts, accountants, and other supportive businesspeople? This year’s panelists will talk about their experiences in the music industry. Bring your curiosity and questions and join us for a meet-and-greet reception after the panel program. FREE. Women’s History Month Luncheon

Thursday, March 30, 2023, 11:30 am

For the past 38 years, the Office of the County Executive has celebrated Women’s History Month in March. To celebrate, County Executive Angela Alsobrooks will host an in-person program at The Hotel @UMD in College Park MD, the cherished tradition of honoring the Gladys Noon Spellman recipients of the public service and scholarship awards as well as saluting all the amazing women in government and the community at large.
