Meet Lauren Moody, the founder of Luminaire Medical and board-certified nurse practitioner and Prince George’s County native. We had the opportunity to speak with her about her business journey and bringing high-end, inclusive aesthetic and wellness care to her hometown. From overcoming industry barriers to pioneering localized luxury, her story showcases how expert-led self-care is transforming the community.
Can you tell us a bit about your business and what inspired you to start your journey here in Prince George’s County?
I’m a board-certified nurse practitioner and the founder of Luminaire Medical, a luxury medical spa located right here in Prince George’s County. As a Prince George’s County native, it was incredibly important to me to build my practice in the community that helped shape who I am.
I wanted to create a space where residents could have access to elevated, high-quality aesthetic and wellness services without having to leave their own community. For me, Luminaire Medical is more than a business—it’s an opportunity to bring something beautiful and impactful back home.
Has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been an easy path. When I entered the aesthetics industry and began building my business, there really wasn’t a clear blueprint for how to successfully start and grow a medical spa. Much of what I’ve built required me to seek out the education and resources on my own.
I invested in additional courses and advanced trainings and often traveled out of state to learn from experts in corrective skincare and advanced injectable techniques. It required a tremendous amount of time, investment, and dedication, but that journey ultimately helped shape the type of provider and business owner I am today.
I’ve been very intentional about continuing my education so that I can bring the highest level of care and natural, undetectable results back to my patients here in Prince George’s County.
Tell us a bit more about your work. What should our readers know about what you do?
My work is centered around helping people look and feel like the best version of themselves while still looking like themselves. At Luminaire Medical, we specialize in treating all skin types and tones, with a strong focus on corrective skincare, natural anti-aging treatments, and subtle, undetectable injectable results.
Our services include customized skincare treatments, chemical peels, Botox, dermal fillers, and advanced treatments designed to address concerns such as hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone and texture, acne, and signs of aging. I’m especially passionate about creating treatment plans that are personalized to each patient rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
We also incorporate wellness into the practice, including medically guided weight-management services, because I believe looking your best and feeling your best often go hand in hand. Ultimately, my goal is for every patient who walks through our doors to feel cared for, confident, and empowered in their skin.

What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
I think one of the biggest misconceptions surrounding the beauty and wellness industry is that investing in yourself is somehow selfish. So many people—especially women—feel that the time or money they spend on themselves could be better spent on their families, children, careers, or other responsibilities. But I believe self-care is an important part of being able to show up fully in every other area of your life. You truly cannot pour from an empty cup.
There’s also a misconception that aesthetic treatments, particularly injectables, have to make you look artificial or unlike yourself. My philosophy is actually the opposite. I specialize in corrective skincare and natural, undetectable injectable treatments that are designed to enhance your features, preserve what makes you uniquely you, and help you age gracefully.
At Luminaire Medical, the goal isn’t to change who you are. It’s to help you invest in yourself, feel confident in your skin, and look like the best version of yourself.
What do you enjoy most about running this business?
What I enjoy most is being able to pour back into a community of people who look like me. Historically, people of color have often been underserved or overlooked within the aesthetics and skincare industries, particularly when it comes to treatments and protocols that truly understand the unique needs of our skin.
Through Luminaire Medical, I’m able to create customized treatment plans, skincare protocols, and wellness services with those needs in mind. It’s incredibly rewarding to provide a level of care that many of my patients may not have previously had access to or felt was designed with them in mind.
But one of my favorite parts of what I do is seeing the confidence that comes with the results. Sometimes a patient comes to me and says, “I just don’t feel like myself anymore,” or they’ve reached a point where they no longer recognize the person they see in the mirror. Being able to help someone reconnect with themselves, restore that confidence, and leave my office with a smile is one of the most fulfilling parts of my work.
What is your absolute favorite part about operating and growing your business in Prince George’s County?
My favorite part about growing Luminaire Medical in Prince George’s County is being able to bring a level of aesthetic and wellness care to the community that, for a long time, many residents felt they had to travel outside of the county to receive. Whether it was going into Washington, D.C., or Northern Virginia, people were often leaving their own community in search of luxury, high-quality aesthetic services.
Now, I’m able to offer advanced corrective skincare, injectable treatments, and wellness services right here in the heart of Prince George’s County—just minutes from where I grew up.
There’s something incredibly meaningful about being able to build a luxury medical practice in my own community and show that our residents shouldn’t have to travel elsewhere to receive premium care. They deserve to have beautiful spaces, advanced treatments, and exceptional service right here at home.

For someone visiting or discovering you for the first time, what is one service, product, or experience they absolutely must try?
If you’re visiting Luminaire Medical for the first time, I would definitely recommend experiencing one of our HydraFacial treatments. HydraFacial is a globally recognized treatment and one of the most popular facial treatments because it’s effective, customizable, and appropriate for virtually all skin types.
I like to describe it to my patients as a “power wash for your skin.” The treatment deeply cleanses and exfoliates while gently suctioning away excess oil, debris, and impurities from the pores. At the same time, we infuse the skin with hydrating and nourishing ingredients, so you leave with skin that feels refreshed and has an incredible glow.
What I especially love is that we can customize the treatment based on your individual skin concerns—whether your goal is brightening, addressing acne and congestion, improving hydration, or supporting healthy aging. It’s one of those treatments where you can see and feel a difference immediately, which makes it the perfect introduction to the Luminaire Medical experience.
What is one major lesson, triumph, or piece of advice you’ve learned along the way that you’d pass on to another local entrepreneur?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned as an entrepreneur is the importance of building community. At Luminaire Medical, I host events throughout the year that allow me to educate people about aesthetics, skincare, and wellness, but they also give me an opportunity to connect with the community beyond the treatment room. I’ve learned that people don’t just want to support a business—they want to feel connected to the people and purpose behind it.
I’ve also learned that being a successful entrepreneur doesn’t mean you have to be an expert at everything. I know my strengths are in patient care, aesthetics, and creating exceptional experiences, so I’ve learned to surround myself with people who are strong in the areas where I may not be. I have team members who support me with marketing, administration, and the day-to-day operations of the practice.
My advice to another entrepreneur would be: don’t be afraid to ask for help and build a strong team around you. Growth really began to feel possible for me when I stopped believing I had to do everything myself. A great business isn’t built by one person—it’s built by having the right people, with the right strengths, working toward the same vision.
What’s next for your business in the coming months, and where can our readers find you online and in person?
There’s so much I’m excited about in this next chapter of Luminaire Medical. Our patients can continue to expect the premium, luxury experience we’re known for, but with an even greater emphasis on technology, personalization, and results.
One of our newest additions is an advanced skin analysis system that uses AI-powered imaging technology to give us a deeper look at what’s happening beneath the surface of the skin. Rather than relying solely on what we can see with the naked eye, we can use objective data to better understand each patient’s skin and develop a truly customized treatment and skincare plan. My goal is to take the guesswork out of skincare and give patients a clear, intentional path toward achieving their skin goals.
We’ll also continue hosting events that bring our community together around beauty, skincare, wellness, and education. I want Luminaire to be more than somewhere you come for a treatment. I want it to be an experience—a place where you can learn, relax, connect, and invest in yourself.
Readers can find Luminaire Medical online at luminairemedical.com and on Instagram at @luminaire.medical. We’re located at 1300 Mercantile Lane, Suite 144, Largo, Maryland 20774, and can be reached at 301-381-2739.
10. How can the community work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
I’m always excited to collaborate with individuals, organizations, and businesses within the beauty, health, and wellness space. Luminaire Medical is available to participate in wellness events, fitness and lifestyle experiences, pop-up shops, beauty and aesthetic conferences, and other community-centered events. I also love opportunities to provide aesthetic and skincare education, host Botox and injectable events, and create customized beauty and wellness experiences for groups and organizations.
For those who simply want to support Luminaire Medical, one of the best ways is to come experience what we’ve created. Book a consultation, allow us to learn more about your goals, and let us create a personalized plan that makes sense for you.
