This past weekend, Landon’s Ices & Creams held a grand opening for its new location on Main Street in Upper Marlboro, Maryland with the Mayor, Town Commissioners and other local officials in attendance. The location on Main Street is the second for owner Lamar Hinson, who opened his first location in La Plata, Maryland back in 2019.

Hinson grew up in the Town of Upper Marlboro and later started crafting ice cream at home due to his allergy to peanuts and the level of cross-contamination that existed at national ice cream shops.

“Larger chain ice cream shops became expensive and lacked the quality ingredients that we’ve come to enjoy. We set out to craft high-quality ice creams at home, which allowed us to know the exact ingredients that were serving our children,” says Hinson.

Hinson started out testing his creations to the community through wholesaling, which offered him the opportunity to save on the costs of operating out of a brick-in-mortar. With the overwhelming support received from the community, Hinson took the leap and signed his first lease in 2019.

“We take pride in creating the finest homemade ice cream made on premises the best in Southern Maryland.”

Landon’s Ices & Creams are open on Mondays 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Tuesday through Sunday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
