After months of negotiations, the Washington Commanders have finally announced new ownership. In a unanimous vote, the NFL approved the sale of the Commanders from Dan Snyder to a new ownership group led by private equity billionaire and Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Josh Harris.
“A new era of Washington football is here. It’s time to get to work,” Harris said after the sale was approved.
In addition to being the principal owner of the 76ers NBA team, Harris is also principal owner of the New Jersey Devils NHL team and London-based soccer club Crystal Palace of the English Premier League.
Among Harris’s partners are Mitchell Rales, former NBA basketball player Magic Johnson and David Blitzer.
It has still not been determined where the team’s new stadium will be located. According to an article by the Washington Post, Harris has yet to begin searching for a new stadium location and may even start the process from scratch.
