The long-awaited vision for a premier retail destination in Westphalia is taking a significant step forward. Prince George’s County officials recently announced that Sprouts Farmers Market, the celebrated specialty retailer known for its focus on organic and natural foods, will serve as the anchor for the retail portion of Westphalia Towne Center.

This 23,000-square-foot addition represents more than just a new grocery store; it is a response to years of community advocacy for high-quality, health-conscious retail options. Located along the Route 4 corridor, the development is designed as a walkable, mixed-use hub where residential life meets modern convenience.

A Win for Community Wellness

For many in District 6, the arrival of Sprouts is a milestone for local health. District 6 Councilmember Danielle Hunter emphasized that this development aligns with the “Succeeding in Six” initiative, focusing on growth that directly improves the daily lives of residents.

“Access to fresh, high-quality food is about more than convenience — it is about health, dignity, and opportunity,” Councilmember Hunter noted. “When we talk about healthier communities, we must recognize that food is medicine.”

Economic Momentum in Westphalia

The project, developed by Walton Global with leasing managed by Heritage Partners, is expected to act as a catalyst for further investment in the area. County Executive Aisha N. Braveboy highlighted the store’s role in the county’s broader economic trajectory, noting that the investment creates jobs while meeting the specific demands of a growing population.

At-Large Councilmember Wala Blegay, who has long championed the project, expressed confidence that Sprouts will serve as a magnet for additional upscale restaurants and commercial ventures. For Westphalia residents, the promise of a vibrant, “live-shop-play” destination is finally becoming a reality.

As Westphalia Towne Center continues to evolve, the addition of a natural food giant like Sprouts signals a new chapter for the community—one defined by wellness, quality, and local pride.
