Aisha Braveboy won the general election for Prince George’s County Executive on Tuesday, earning her first full four-year term in the office.
Braveboy, a Democrat, was first elected to the post in a 2025 special election after Angela Alsobrooks left to join the U.S. Senate. She won the Democratic primary in June. No Republican filed for the general election, and independent candidate, Tonya Sweat, who had sought a place on the ballot was ruled ineligible, making Braveboy the only name listed.
Braveboy has held several public offices in the county:
- State’s Attorney: She served as the county’s chief prosecutor, an office she held before becoming County Executive.
- Maryland House of Delegates: She represented District 25 in the General Assembly.
- County Executive: She took over the executive branch in 2025 following Alsobrooks’s departure.
Priorities for the Term
Braveboy’s campaign emphasized several areas:
- Economic development: Growing the commercial tax base and attracting businesses to reduce the county’s reliance on federal employment.
- Infrastructure and public safety: Continued investment in infrastructure, emergency services, and safety programs.
- Education: Working with Prince George’s County Public Schools on resources, facilities, and career pathway programs.
