On Sunday, December 10, the Prince George’s Philharmonic held its annual Holiday Concert in collaboration with the Coalition for African Americans in the Performing Arts (CAAPA) at the Prince George’s Community College Performing Arts Center.
The afternoon concert kicked off with greetings from Susan Pearl, Philharmonic Board President, Terri Allen, CAAPA Executive Director and Dr. Wala Blegay, County Councilmember for District 6.
The orchestra played Holiday classics such as A Christmas Festival, Around the World at Christmas Time, Hansel and Gretel, Sleigh Ride and George Frederic Handel’s eternal Holiday favorite, Messiah. The event featured guest performances by the Shabach! K-8 Academy Dance Ensemble and Choir, the CAAPA Generations Choir and the Prince George’s County Choral Society.
Guest artists included soprano and Grammy Award winner, Angela Ferette, Coordinator for CAAPA’s “Opera for Fun Youth Outreach Program, Wayne Jennings and Bowie State University’s very own Rayah Burge.
Background: Formed in December 1965, The Prince George’s Philharmonic has been hosting concerts each season at different locations in the County for over 57 years. The organization is funded by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC).
