A dream has become reality for Quincy Wilson, a 16-year-old native from Bowie, Maryland who made his Olympic Trials debut this year. He’s heading to the Summer Games in Paris after being selected to be apart of the U.S. 4×400 meter relay team.
The sophomore from Bullis High School broke the news through his Instagram stating “WE GOING TO THE OLYMPICS.” His Coach confirmed Monday that he received a call from the Olympics Coaching Staff sharing the news. The news comes after Quincy finished sixth in the 400-meter final, clocking in three jaw-dropping 45-second laps.
Although he will not compete in the 400-meter dash at the Olympics, Quincy will become the youngest male to compete in U.S. Olympic Track & Field, which is a historic achievement for the young athlete.
On June 21, Quincy broke the U-18 world record in the 400-meter dash previously held by Justin Robinson, an American who ran 44.84. Quincy ran 44.66 and then went on to beat his own record in the semifinals with a time of 44.59.
Before him, the youngest American male track athletes to qualify for the Olympics were Jim Ryun and Erriyon Knighton, both of whom were 17 when they became Olympians.
It will be a busy summer for Quincy and what we hope will be the beginning of a long and successful career in track & field.
The official U.S. Track & Field Team Roster will be unveiled next week.
