As Chesapeake Oyster Week kicks off across the region from March 20–31, our local dining scene is stepping up to prove you don’t have to go far to enjoy the best of the Bay.
Whether you’re a seasoned connoisseur of the “half-shell” or a curious newcomer looking to support our local watermen, this week is about more than just a gourmet happy hour. Every oyster enjoyed at a participating Prince George’s establishment helps the Oyster Recovery Partnership return shells to the water, building new reefs that filter our local waterways.
From the upscale raw bars of National Harbor to the beloved seafood institutions in Bowie and College Park, we’ve rounded up the top spots where you can slurp for a cause. Gather your friends and let’s dive into the best deals happening right here in the County.
1. The Walrus Oyster & Ale House (National Harbor)
Enjoy a chic waterfront vibe and these oyster specials:
Oyster Happy Hour (Mon-Fri, 3-6 pm)
$2 Oysters (Local Wilds – Chesapeake Bay, MD)
$9 Island Oyster Shooter w/ Tajín rim (Local Wild Oyster) Skyy vodka or Cazadores Blanco Tequila, pineapple, jalapeños, mint, cilantro, cucumber
2. Grillmarx Steakhouse & Raw Bar (College Park/UMD)
Known for its upscale atmosphere and raw bar, Grillmarx will be offering daily oyster features and oyster shooters as part of its menu.
3. Captain White’s Seafood City (Oxon Hill)
For the residents who prefer to shuck at home, this is the place to buy local bushels directly from a family-owned business that has been a county staple since 1972.
4. Jerry’s Seafood (Bowie)
Famous for the “Crab Bomb,” Jerry’s is a massive supporter of local watermen. Look for their Baked Oyster Sampler or Oyster Rockefeller specials which usually see a price drop during ChOW.
