Foodies and philanthropists have a delicious reason to visit the waterfront this weekend. On Sunday, August 9, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, National Harbor is hosting Taste of America at the Harbor, a culinary walkaround benefitting the Alzheimer’s Association.
As part of National Harbor’s broader America 250 celebrations, the event pairs local bites with a meaningful cause: anyone who donates $5 or more to the Alzheimer’s Association will receive free samples from more than 10 participating restaurants and specialty retailers.
“With such a diverse collection of restaurants and specialty food retailers, Taste of America at the Harbor gives visitors the opportunity to enjoy flavors from around the country while supporting an important cause,” said Deborah Topcik, senior director of marketing for National Harbor. “I know firsthand what this disease can do, and I am excited that we can help the cause.”
What’s on the Menu?
Visitors looking to participate simply need to present a donation receipt at participating locations, which will be easily identifiable by signage in their front windows.
Here is a glimpse at what participating spots are serving up:
- Fogo de Chão: Brazilian Grilled Cheese
- Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings: Pan-fried pork buns
- SUCCOTASH: Cornbread and a pimento bite
- Mason’s Famous Lobster Rolls: Clam chowder
- PrimoHoagies: PrimoAmerican samplings
- Flight Deck at The Capital Wheel: Samples of Chesapeake Haze or Flight Deck IPA
- Silver Diner: Junior vanilla shake
- The Yard Milkshake Bar: A scoop of edible cookie dough
- Savannah’s Candy Kitchen: Pralines, gophers, and fudge
- IT’SUGAR: Guest’s choice from the sample cart
Cooking Up Support for a Local Impact
The August 9 event serves as a tasty precursor to the upcoming Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Prince George’s County, scheduled for Saturday, September 19 right at National Harbor. All proceeds raised during Taste of America directly support the September walk, funding the Alzheimer’s Association’s care, research, and family support programs.
The cause holds particular weight for the area.
“Prince George’s County has one of the highest rates of Alzheimer’s disease in Maryland, making this an especially meaningful cause for our community,” Topcik emphasized. “We hope people will enjoy a fun afternoon at National Harbor on August 9 while helping us make a difference for families affected by Alzheimer’s.”
